About this paint

This paint job is inspired by the Gold leaf Lotus 49s raced at the start of 1968. Later on the "HMS Hero" graphic was dropped in favour of a Union Flag. The graphics on the back of the car are copied from a 1970s (bumper?) sticker. The "Racing for Britain" text was taken from the later Gold Leaf livery. I did try different positions for the graphics but I was constrained by the car number and drivers' name. Initially I did put them in front of the numbers as in the 1968 49, but they were masked by the front wheels. In the end I reached what I considered the best compromise. I got the idea for these mudguards from a kit car based on a 60s F1 car I saw a few years back. To be driven on the roads motor vehicles in the UK must be equipped with mud guards (which obviously F1 cars are not). To get round this the car had mudguards cut from vintage tyres. I have added an alpha channel to the spec-map to give the tread some depth.
