Jimmy Johnsons 2016 Chasing 7 Tribute

Helmets by Alan PurserAlan Purser Pro

About this paint

In 2016, seven-time champion Jimmie Johnson (already a six-time title winner) entered the NASCAR Cup Series playoffs chasing a seventh championship—a number that would tie him with the two greatest drivers in NASCAR history: Richard Petty and the late Dale Earnhardt Sr. Johnson had his helmet artist incorporate direct tributes to those icons on the rear as both a sign of respect and a bold motivational "target" for himself during the 10-race Chase.
He wore this helmet for the final stretch of the playoffs, including the championship race at Homestead-Miami Speedway. Johnson delivered, winning the race and clinching his 7th title in dramatic fashion, joining Petty and Earnhardt in the exclusive club of seven-time champions. After the race, he gifted this exact "Chasing 7" helmet to retiring driver Tony Stewart as a memento.
It remains one of the most memorable special helmets in modern NASCAR, perfectly capturing Johnson's pursuit of greatness while honoring the legends who came before him.
